Vestry Car Wash

The annual vestry car wash is August 11th during and after the church service. Proceeds from the car wash go to benefit the Jeri Trudell Scholarship Fund that was established by Malcolm and Joan Mitchell. The fund honors a former long time office secretary as well as our current graduates. Even if your car is angelically clean donations are appreciated, so bring your cars and support our graduates!

State of the Building

Aberdeen High School Life Skills students have been cleaning the sanctuary and doing some other maintenance tasks around the church not covered by our regular cleaning service. Once a week, supervised by Jerry from AHS and one person from the Building and Grounds Committee, Charlie and Chance vacuum the sanctuary, scrub and polish the woodwork and wood floors, wash windows, clean chairs, and pick up trash around the outside of the church  This gives them experience in handling different kinds of equipment and learning different skills. The students’ work has been invaluable, and AHS has requested continuing this arrangement in the fall.

Our old 10’ wooden ladder has seen better days, and recently we purchased a 10’ ladder to replace it. If you know of anyone who would like the wooden ladder please contact anyone on the Building and Grounds Committee. The B & G Committee has also been exploring ways to make caring for our gardens more convenient.  We’re looking into some new equipment and a secure and convenient means of storing it. Thanks go to our indomitable lawn fairy, and to Eric, Chris, and Colin for their grounds-related work.

Camp Huston Summer Camp

This year Camp Huston has programs for youth ages 6-15, and Counselor Training for youth age 16 and up. Their Discovery Camp sessions focus on team building, with a challenge course, hikes, cook-outs, arts and crafts, archery, swimming, and more. They are also bringing back Horse Camp for the first time since the start of the pandemic and will also have International Camp as usual. The Bishop Curtis Scholarship, which splits cost between family, church, and diocese, is also available.

For more information, including on how to work as camp counselor or resident staff, visit huston.org. A poster with more details is on the bulletin board across from the kitchen.

Prayer Book Class

Starting June 9th, Fr. Collins will be holding a Pearls of the Prayer Book class on Sundays after service to explore the spirituality and usefulness of the prayer book.

PRAYER LISTS

Search Committee  Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of Ann, Shari, Bette, and Suzanne, who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers for Israel, Gaza, and the Middle East: Loving and liberating Creator, send your healing Spirit upon all involved in the current conflict and violence in the Middle East. Comfort those who mourn or who have been harmed by brutality. Stand with those who are fearful. Protect and provide for the powerless and the vulnerable. Inspire a spirit of forbearance and understanding within all and uphold those who even now work for a just and durable peace. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Prayer for a Quiet Heart, from the Reform Judaism Prayerbook: Holy one, Give me a quiet heart, and help me to heart the still, small voice that speaks within me. It calls me to come close to You and to grow in Your likeness. It teaches me to do my work faithfully, even when no one’s eye is upon me. It counsels me to judge others kindly and to love them freely, for it persuades me to see divinity in everyone I meet. Help me, O God, to come to the end of each day feeling that I used its gifts wisely and faced its trials bravely.
