Candlemas Service
Sunday, February 2nd is the Feast of the Presentation in the Temple. In the English medieval church, this feast became known as Candlemas, or Mass of the Candles, and would include the blessing of the candles that are to be used in services and processions. The candlelight is an outward and visible sign of Christ, who illumines our heart and inner being.
If you would like candles from your home to be blessed, please bring them on this day.
State of the Building
As far as projects go, this time of year is a slow one for the Building and Grounds committee. However, with increased foot and vehicle activity in the alley, on the street, and in the parking lot, and with incidents of vandalism and theft, we are revisiting the issue of security at St. Andrews. For example, one of our garbage cans was stolen. Thankfully, when we reported it to LeMay they replaced it just before 12th Night dinner at no charge to us.
Mostly at this time of year we’re looking forward to getting to work on several projects:
- Install a shelf and hooks in the vestments closet to further expand storage space for the Altar Guild.
- Install and backlight the two stained glass windows in Giles Hall. They are currently stored in the attic.
- Investigate some rotten wood on the front porch, discovered when Rob Ashler and Dorothy Addison replaced the railings.
- Replace the bark and landscaping fabric in the gardens with high quality topsoil, as the bark is a potential fire hazard
Annual Meeting
Our annual meeting will be Sunday, February 23rd, following the service. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the accompanying brunch.
Twelfth Night Success
Our Epiphany Eve dinner was a great success, as usual. Over 80 people came to enjoy an excellent feast, followed by evening prayer. The donation total was over $2,500! Many thanks to everyone who attended, donated, and of course helped host for the evening. These last are listed in the Thanks section of the newsletter.
Youth Confirmation
The Diocese of Olympia is hosting its 4th annual confirmation series for teens. This weekly online series starts Sunday, February 16 and runs through April 27, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. We’ll use the dynamic “Confirm Not Conform” curriculum as our guide and will be visited by guest speakers from across the Diocese, including our own Bishop Phil LaBelle. Small group breakouts will provide time for connection with peers. For more information and to register:

Inspire a spirit of forbearance and understanding within all and uphold those who even now work for a just and durable peace. In the name of Christ. Amen.
