Letter From Father Joe and Nancy Mikel

To the good people and friends of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church,

St. Andrew’s Church has been in an ‘in-between’ time for six and a half years. Now begins a return to what might be called ‘normal’ time where your priest lives here, works here, and is only a hop, skip, and a jump from church, or the hospital or your favorite coffee house for personal time to talk about ‘stuff’.

Nancy and I have been a part of that ‘in-between’ time. You made us feel like family where we were just your priest and partner worshiping together each Sunday and having time after church in fellowship at coffee hour.

Doing the work of parish life fell mostly on you during this ‘in-between’ time. In fact you figured it out. When a need presented itself, you called the church and the right person stepped in and the need was met. Wow! You did it. You grew into knowing what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Sure, you shared with the Interim Priest what was going on and stepped aside for the priest to do what priests do, but things weren’t just dropped or missed.

Nancy and I thank you for being with us in a way that has been just wonderful. It’s nice to feel accepted on such short notice and allowed ‘in’, even warmly welcomed ‘in’ without hesitation or question.

But of course that’s who you are. That mission statement on your web site is real. It’s actually real and not just boiler-plate words, “To share God’s Love with faith, hope, and trust by welcoming all”. Nancy and I got to be a part of  that – so Thank You!

Our last Sunday is October 12th. Come and let us thank you in person. We are excited for you. We are your biggest cheer leaders. Love can often be an innocuous word devoid of depth and soul. For us, though, we truly love you and thank you for who you are and what you have meant for us.

With love and Godspeed,

Fr. Joe and Nancy
